Fitting a new saw blade in a saw frame Expect to break quite a few blades in the beginning. Blades do break easily because they are under tension, so it's not just you - even the slightest movement to the left or right while your are sawing can break the blade.

Fitting a new saw blade in a saw frame
Author: Sunette van den Berg (28 April 2010)
Difficulty: Easy

Expect to break quite a few blades in the beginning. Blades do break easily because they are under tension, so it's not just you - even the slightest movement to the left or right while your are sawing can break the blade.

Step: 1

Take a blade in your hand, with the teeth of the blade pointing down toward the handle of the sawframe and outward.

Place the blade al the way down in the bottom fastner of your saw. Tighten the screw. Place the top of your saw into the v-cut of your benchpeg.

Step: 2

Placing your left hand on the handle of the saw push toward the benchpeg (this works best seated) and tighten the top fastner. Remove the saw from the benchpeg.

Step: 3

To test the direction of your sawblade, run your finger up against it, if it meets with resistance you have fitted your sawblade correctly, if it doesn't you need to turn the blade around.

Step: 4

Your sawblade should be firm and springy and when plucked should give a sharp "ping". If it doesn't "ping" it needs to be tightened more.
